Chinese medical imaging vendor United Imaging Healthcare (UIH) launched a line of radiology-related artificial intelligence (AI) software at this month's inaugural United Innovation Summit in Shanghai.
UIH's uAI platform is designed to automatically generate and analyze multiple volumes of interest for a variety of conditions using deep-learning applications. The line includes 10 software applications, such as the uAI Smart Chest X-ray Assistant and the uAI Mammo Risk Assessment algorithms. The uAI Smart Chest X-ray Assistant was trained by 200,000 cases and can read chest x-rays based on deep-learning algorithms for screening and detecting abnormal images, according to the company.
Artificial intelligence has also been built into three scanners UIH is showcasing: the uCT 528 CT scanner, the uCS 1.5-tesla MR system, and the Intelligent Digital PET/CT system. AI algorithms in uCT 528 can confirm the positioning of patients of different genders, ages, and scanning positions through face detection. The technology enhances the accuracy and standardization of positioning to ensure overall image quality, and it can handle approximately 70% of body positions involved in daily CT scanning, according to UIH.
At the meeting, UIH said its MR portfolio now includes 1.5- and 3-tesla scanners and a PET/MRI system, and the company is focusing on the development of a 5-tesla scanner, as well as an MRI system targeted at imaging infants. The company also plans to develop CT scanners based on photon-counting and sparse-sampling technologies, along with a "robot" digital radiography (DR) system that will allow physicians to acquire images with the push of a button.
