Thai researchers have developed a concept for a large-scale, secure DICOM image repository using open-source software.

The system is based on the principles of "big data" architecture and the cloud, according to a team led by presenter Suranarong Kamtasila from consulting firm Virebase.

"This exhibit demonstrates DICOM image repository system installation that can support a very large size of data and an over-the-network backup method," Kamtasila said. "The system will be easier to use and maintain."

Because they are based on the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 27001 requirements, all system designs keep security in mind, Kamtasila said.
