Covidien names R&D team

Covidien has named several executives to the R&D team in its pharmaceutical products and imaging solutions businesses.

Dr. Michael Giuliani has joined the Hamilton, Bermuda-based company as vice president of R&D for Pharmaceutical Products and Imaging Solutions. Giuliani comes to Covidien from Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals in Newport, KY, where he served as chief medical officer and executive vice president of product development.

James Young, Ph.D., has been named vice president of R&D operations for Pharmaceutical Products and Imaging Solutions. Young previously served as vice president of product development at Xanodyne.

Ralph Heasley, Ph.D., has become vice president of global R&D technology, Pharmaceutical Products. Heasley held executive-level positions at Xanodyne; Quintiles Transnational of Research Triangle Park, NC; and 3M Pharmaceuticals of St. Paul, MN (Riker Laboratories); prior to joining Covidien.

Randel Frazier will continue at Covidien as vice president of global R&D for Imaging Solutions. Frazier joined Tyco Healthcare in 1994 and became vice president of imaging R&D in 2002.
