RSNA releases recycling stats from 2012 show

RSNA has released statistics on recycling from the 2012 edition of radiology's showcase meeting.

RSNA 2012 at Chicago's McCormick Place diverted 251 tons of waste from local landfills, according to the society, for a facility diversion rate of 70%. Some 227 tons of fiber-based materials were recycled, as well as 14 tons of bottles and cans and 9 tons of composted material. In comparison, 109 tons of nonrecyclable waste was generated at the show.

The efforts saved the equivalent of 3,852 trees, 86,096 gallons of oil, and 929,000 kilowatts of electricity. The show also saved 1.6 million gallons of water, RSNA reported.
