Toshiba touts MicroPure US pilot study

Toshiba America Medical Systems said that a pilot study at Thomas Jefferson University (TJU) found that its MicroPure ultrasound image processing technique helped improve visualization of breast microcalcifications.

In a pilot study involving 20 women with breast microcalcifications published in the June issue of the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine (Vol. 31:6, pp. 885-893), the TJU team reported that four readers identified significantly more breast microcalcifications with MicroPure than they did with grayscale ultrasound.

The study included women with breast calcifications that were originally identified by mammography and were then evaluated using Toshiba's MicroPure software on the Aplio XG ultrasound system, in comparison with grayscale ultrasound imaging.
