Varian, Siemens to collaborate on radiotherapy

Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems and Siemens Healthcare have announced a collaboration under which they will provide advanced diagnostic and therapeutic devices and services for treating cancer with image-guided radiotherapy and radiosurgery, Varian said.

The collaboration covers the mutual marketing of products for imaging and treatment in the global radiation oncology business. The two companies also plan to develop new products for image-guided radiotherapy and radiosurgery, according to Varian.

Beginning immediately, Varian will represent Siemens diagnostic imaging products such as CT, PET/CT, and MRI to radiation oncology clinics in most international markets and expanding to North America later this year. Siemens will similarly represent Varian equipment and software for radiotherapy and radiosurgery with its healthcare customers.

The two firms will also incorporate Varian's Aria oncology information system software with Siemens' linear accelerators and imaging systems, Varian said.
