InSite One tapped for RSNA demonstration

Archiving services provider InSite One said that its InDex Image Sharing Portal will be used in an image sharing demonstration at this month's RSNA meeting in Chicago.

The demonstration for sharing exams and associated reports -- developed under a contract between the RSNA and the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) -- will show how participating institutions are enabling patients to manage access to their medical imaging data and retain the data as part of a personal health record, according to the Wallingford, CT-based vendor.

The RSNA demonstration will provide sample images and reports, allow attendees to send them to a clearinghouse, retrieve them for viewing in a personal health record, archive them for future access, invite others to view them, and download them to a local device, InSite One said.

In January 2011 and for a two-year trial period, Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City; the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN; the University of California, San Francisco; the University of Chicago; and the University of Maryland in Baltimore will provide patients with the ability to select the firm's InDex Image Sharing Portal to manage their medical imaging exams and associated reports. The five institutions are participating in the RSNA's Image Sharing Network pilot project, InSite One said.
