Carestream Health of Rochester, NY, will highlight several upgrades to its PACS software, as well as recently launched digital x-ray systems, at the upcoming RSNA meeting in Chicago.
The company will highlight two new capabilities for Carestream PACS. The first, to be shown as a work-in-progress, is a zero-footprint Web-based portal that can be integrated with the company's vendor-neutral Clinical Data Archive to enable remote users to view image data and patient information. The portal can also be linked to Carestream Health's SuperPACS architecture.
The other new upgrade is an optional PACS module that delivers embedded critical results notification to meet Joint Commission requirements. The module will be available with new PACS orders worldwide starting in December.
Carestream will also demonstrate its new eHealth Portal service, which lets healthcare providers that use the company's remotely hosted archiving service to allow access to data via the Internet. The portal will be available shortly in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
Carestream will also highlight introductions made during 2010 to its DRX family of wireless digital radiography (DR) detectors. These include the Carestream DRX-Evolution dual-detector suite and the DRX-1C detector, which sports a cesium iodide scintillator for higher detective quantum efficiency (DQE) than the company's first-generation DRX-1 detector.
New software for all DR systems and both detectors offers an extended exposure mode of up to three seconds, which can be helpful when imaging obese patients or for cross-table and mobile exams, Carestream said. Images can automatically be rotated according to customer preferences to save time and enhance reading efficiency.
Carestream will also highlight Quantum Medical Imaging, the Ronkonkoma, NY-based x-ray developer that Carestream acquired in September 2010.
In women's health, the company will tout its Carestream Mammography Workstation, which enables diagnostic review of breast imaging exams from multiple modalities, as well as all general radiology exams. The company also offers mammography-specific modules on its RIS and PACS platforms, including specialized reading tools, patient scheduling, and communications techniques, as well as reporting capabilities.
The firm will also discuss its full-field digital mammography (FFDM) technology, available as an option on computed radiography (CR) systems in Canada, Europe, Australia, and other international regions. CR mammography is not available in the U.S. pending U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance.
