Believing that the proposed implementation of the U.S. healthcare IT (HIT) stimulus plan fails to take into account the needs of radiology, four major radiology organizations have joined forces to request changes by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
In their joint statement, the American College of Radiology, American Board of Radiology, the RSNA, and the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine made the case that the meaningful use requirements of certified electronic health record (EHR) technology should be modified to take into account the needs and workflows of specialists such as radiologists. They also suggest ways for the requirements to be improved to meet this goal.

The stimulus program, established by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, aims to incentivize EHR adoption by hospitals and physicians who provide services outside of hospital settings.
