Two of radiology's most venerable organizations -- the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS) -- are officially one.
The merger of the societies became official on July 1, according to the groups. The deal had been cemented at a signing ceremony at the ACR's Annual Meeting and Chapter Leadership Conference (AMCLC) in May.
Both organizations will retain their individual identities, as well as their basic structures and missions, according to ACR board of chancellors chair Dr. James Thrall. ARRS will focus on publishing its journals and organizing its annual meeting, while the ACR will continue to lobby on radiology's behalf in Washington, DC, as well as continue its work in research, economics, quality, and safety.
Thrall said the organizations hope to take advantage of their combined talents on continuing education issues, including the challenge of staying up to date on new imaging technologies. A particularly exciting development is the chance for both groups to work together on the ACR's Education Center, Thrall said.
