The American College of Radiology (ACR) has released updated MR safe practice guidelines. The 2007 version contains information on nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF), a reaction to gadolinium that has been noted in patients with renal disease.
The ACR Blue Ribbon Panel on MR Safety, led by Dr. Emanuel Kanal, also addressed MR in patients with aneurysm clips, pacemakers, and cardiac defibrillators. A first-time appendix outlines the safety issues associated with MR installation, such as cryogen emergency vent locations and patient access pathways.
The safety guidelines were first published in 2002 and subsequently revised in 2004. Click here to download the 27-page document, which will be published in the June 2007 issue of the American Journal of Roentgenology.
