Capital budgets for interventional angiography labs are increasing as they gear up to purchase flat-panel digital detectors, according to a new report published by market research and consulting firm IMV Medical Information Division of Des Plaines, IL.
Over 25% of the sites surveyed indicated they had budgets of more than $1 million for 2005, compared to 19% of the angio sites surveyed in 2001. In addition, only 38% of the sites budgeted for film in 2005, compared to 79% of the sites three years ago, according to IMV.
In all, 4 million procedures were performed in angio labs in 2004, 2.86 million of which were noncoronary angio procedures, IMV said. From 1998 to 2004, the proportion of therapeutic applications, including angioplasties, vascular access, stent placements, thrombolytic therapy, IVC filter placements, and embolization increased from 38% of the noncoronary angio procedures to 45%.
Budgets for catheters, stents, and related devices in angio have also increased, according to the firm. In 2004, 30% of the sites had budgets of over $600,000, compared with 15% of the sites in 2001.
