2001 11 06 10 24 37 706 Respondents to IMV's 2000 Market Research Study of Mammography Sites indicate that the average annual volume of procedures performed per mammography imaging unit increases with hospital size.

This average increases based on hospital size. It ranges from under 1,700 procedures per unit in hospitals with fewer than 100 beds, to 2,500 in hospitals with 100 to 400 beds, to 3,100 in hospitals with more than 400 beds.

The pattern suggests economies of scale, although the non-hospital sites have the highest average, with each mammography unit performing nearly 3,300 procedures a year.
