Kodak, Cedars-Sinai to pilot ASP PACS model

Eastman Kodak has announced a memorandum of understanding with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center of Los Angeles to pilot an application service provider (ASP) model for the delivery of enterprise-wide PACS. Initially, the pilot project will provide image distribution for authorized referring physicians within the medical center, according to Rochester, NY-based Kodak.

Kodak expects the project to be expanded to include image distribution outside the hospital and its affiliated organizations to authorized referring physicians. It may also be expanded to include offsite image storage and other services, according to Kodak.

Kodak is partnering with Internet managed services provider Intel Online Services of Santa Clara, CA, on the project. Cedars-Sinai will transmit images to an Intel data center via a secure virtual private network (VPN). Images will then be available via secure Internet access to authorized referring physicians, according to Kodak.
