3-D software developer Vital Images said it has received Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance to market version 2.2 of its Vitrea 2 software package. Vitrea 2 version 2.2 features new clinical capabilities designed specifically to aid in the diagnosis and analysis of heart disease and brain tumors, according to the Minneapolis, MN-based firm.
Among the new analytic tools, a vascular measurement function automates the process of gathering selected vessel measurements for heart disease treatment planning, according to Vital Images. The new version also features significant improvements for CT colonoscopy, including enhanced integration of 2-D and 3-D visualization, according to the vendor.
Vital Images said its engineers worked with Intel to develop significantly faster volume rendering capability using the latest Pentium III processor technology, enhancements the company believes will allow medical professionals to view and navigate images more quickly.
