The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is calling on drug manufacturers to develop risk management plans to handle drug shortages.

The FDA recently issued a draft guidance called "Risk Management Plans to Mitigate the Potential for Drug Shortages" to help manufacturers with the development, maintenance, and implementation of risk management plans.

The guidance contains a framework for stakeholders to consider when developing plans. It also identifies risk factors for consideration.
