Intermountain Healthcare has adopted new guidelines that advise women to postpone screening mammograms until four weeks after they have received the COVID-19 vaccine.

Clinicians around the country have noticed an increase in mammograms in women who have recently received the COVID-19 vaccine showing swollen lymph nodes, the company said. Its updated guidelines state that women should undergo mammography screening before receiving the COVID-19 vaccine or delay screening until four weeks after their final vaccine dose to avoid false positives from COVID-19 vaccine-induced lymph node swelling.

The guidelines are in accord with recommendations released by the Society of Breast Imaging, Intermountain Healthcare said.
