ExEm Foam has announced that its ultrasound contrast agent for detecting tubal patency is available at select fertility clinics in the U.S.

ExEm is based on air polymer-type A intrauterine foam and is used for hysterosalpingo foam sonography (HyFoSy), an ultrasound technique that allows clinicians to assess whether a woman's fallopian tubes are blocked when infertility is suspected.

Hysterosalpingo foam sonography is not as complicated or invasive as the laparoscopy and dye method, which has become the gold standard. The foam has been used in more than 500,000 tubal patency procedures worldwide since it was first launched in Europe in 2011.
