Miss. radiologist dies of COVID-19

A Mississippi radiologist who was serving on the state's Board of Health has died of complications related to COVID-19, according to an obituary in the Clarion-Ledger of Jackson.

Dr. Edgar Dalton Barham of Clinton passed away on January 9 at the age of 79. At the time of his passing, Barham was serving as the chief medical officer and chair of the board of Merit Health Woman's Hospital in Flowood, MS, and had been a member of the Mississippi State Board of Health since 2012.

A board-certified diagnostic radiologist, Barham received his medical degree from George Washington University in 1962. He then joined the U.S. Army and trained in radiology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where he spent eight years teaching and practicing radiology. He left the Army in 1974 having attained the rank of lieutenant colonel, according to the obituary.

On leaving the Army, Dalton moved to Jackson to practice radiology, during his career serving as chief of radiology at Doctor's Hospital, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, River Oaks Hospital, and Woman's Hospital.
