Artificial intelligence (AI) software developer Avicenna said that its Cina Head software now qualifies for the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) new technology add-on payment (NTAP) available for computer-assisted triage and notification software in detecting stroke on CT exams.

Avicenna's Cina Head software analyzes brain CTA exams acquired in acute settings and urgently notifies clinical team members when a suspected large vessel occlusion (LVO) has been identified, according to the vendor. It's now eligible for reimbursement of up to $1,040 under the NTAP reimbursement structure.

The NTAP, which was initially announced in September for Viz.ai's Viz LVO algorithm, has also been extended recently to include LVO detection software from RapidAI, and Aidoc.
