Hologic has launched a multiyear initiative to address breast cancer screening disparities among Black women.

The effort is in partnership with the Black Women's Health Imperative (BWHI) and RAD-AID, the company said. It will include an awareness campaign featuring Mary J. Blige and funding for screening and diagnostic services at 15 U.S. facilities that will be administered through RAD-AID to communities in areas such as Chicago; the Bronx and Washington Heights in New York City; Seattle; and Washington, DC, as well as states such as Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Mississippi, and North Carolina.

Black women are almost 40% more likely to die from breast cancer than white women, Hologic said. This initiative is intended to encourage them to get annual mammograms beginning at age 40 and to make breast cancer screening readily available to women in underserved communities.
