Perimeter launches AI breast tumor image test project

Perimeter Medical Imaging AI has launched a project that will collect images of breast tumors to train and test its work-in-progress artificial intelligence (AI) software, ImgAssist.

The project, called ATLAS AI, will help identify whether cancer is still present in real-time during breast-conserving surgery. It will enroll 400 patients and will be supported by a $7.4 million grant from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.

Once it is released, the software will be used with the company's OTIS (Optical Tissue Imaging) system, which collects image data from breast tissue samples, according to the firm.
