More than 75% of hospitals and imaging centers that perform mammography in the U.S. have resumed breast cancer screening operations, according to data from breast imaging software developer Volpara Solutions.

Statistical data from the company's VolparaEnterprise software shows that exam volumes are also recovering rapidly, according to the vendor. As restrictions on nonemergency healthcare services are easing, imaging facilities are expanding their hours and offering weekend appointments to manage the backlog of patients who weren't able to attend their regularly scheduled screening dates due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Volpara said.

At many sites, exam volumes have returned to within 10% of prepandemic levels, and about 5% of facilities are recording exam volumes higher than previous levels, the company said.
