7D Surgical lands installation in New England

Image-guided surgery developer 7D Surgical has installed its 7D Surgical System at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua. The sale marks 7D's first installation in New England.

The 7D system is designed to replace standard fluoroscopy during surgical procedures using what the company calls its machine-vision image-guided surgery (MvIGS) platform, which enables surgeons to guide tools to anatomy using camera technology that is linked to a computer in the operating theater.

7D Surgical System uses 3D optical technologies and machine-vision algorithms, registering spinal surgery patients automatically using only visible light. The system also uses the company's Flash Registration of the patient's anatomy, meaning the workflow takes less than 20 seconds for de novo spinal registration.

The company sees the system as an alternative to image-guided surgery systems that rely on radiation-bearing imaging modalities.
