Amazon launches medical language processing service

Amazon has launched Amazon Comprehend Medical, a machine-learning service that enables developers to process unstructured medical text and can identify information from medical text, such as notes, transcripts, radiology reports, and more.

The new service uses machine learning to output relevant patient data from various sources. It can recognize medical conditions, anatomic terms, medications, medical test details, treatments, and procedures, according to Amazon.

Comprehend Medical can help healthcare providers, insurers, researchers, and clinical trial investigators to improve clinical decision support and clinical trials management, while better addressing data privacy and protected health information (PHI) requirements, according to the company.

The service is covered by Amazon's HIPAA eligibility and can be integrated with other health applications, services, and systems.
