Spreemo builds spine network to improve outcomes

Data analytics technology developer Spreemo Health has launched the Spine Radiology Network, which is aimed at raising the standard of spine care by improving treatment outcomes and reducing diagnostic errors for patients with back pain.

Taking aim at the $100 billion spent each year on back pain and spine care, the company will create a quality-grading framework to define best practices and reduce medical errors, paving the way for a new era of enhanced outcomes for patients with spine-related back and leg pain, Spreemo said.

Despite the rapid growth of treatment options and spinal surgeries, there has been no corresponding improvement in patient outcomes, said Spreemo CEO Ron Vianu in a statement. There is often a 30-fold cost difference between good and bad outcomes, which makes payors willing to invest more money in spine care while demanding better solutions, he added.

Diagnostic errors lead to a significant number of suboptimal outcomes in spine care, so by improving the quality of diagnoses, healthcare providers will more consistently order the most appropriate treatments for people with spine-related back and leg pain, the company said.

Helping providers is another important part of the Spine Radiology Network's approach. Reducing medical errors means not just identifying the best providers, but also partnering with them to help them improve care. By uniting doctors and data scientists and drawing on research, the network will define and deliver optimal care for back pain patients, according to Spreemo.
