Before migrating your PACS, do a test run

A Dutch team will explain in this poster why it's a smart idea to do a test migration before moving your imaging data over to a new PACS.

With a search underway for a new PACS and the understanding that migrating imaging data into the new system is the most challenging part of a transition to a new system, the University Medical Center Groningen decided to perform a test migration, said Peter van Ooijen, PhD, of the university.

"In our case, many problems with data migration were already identified and solved during the test migration, which will ensure a higher level of trust and helps avoid delays in this migration, because the critical issues are already tackled and solved before the migration is started," he told AuntMinnie.com.

It's also important to mimic the real migration procedure during the test migration to determine if there are any problems in the technical setup of the migration environment, van Ooijen said.
