vRad adds patent to teleradiology lawsuit

Teleradiology services provider Virtual Radiologic (vRad) has added a recently issued patent to litigation filed against other teleradiology firms.

vRad said it added U.S. Patent No. 8,515,778 to the complaint it has filed against software developer Tandem Radiology and its customers, teleradiology providers Imaging Advantage and Direct Radiology. vRad amended its complaint on September 12 in the U.S. Court for the District of Arizona to include the new patent.

The vRad litigation charges that after five former vRad employees broke away from the company to join the new firm, Tandem launched its own teleradiology software that bears "substantial similarities" to vRad's software. Tandem and the other companies have denied the allegations.
