vRad hits telerad firms with patent suit

Teleradiology services provider Virtual Radiologic (vRad) has filed a lawsuit against several teleradiology firms -- including national radiology group Imaging Advantage -- charging patent and copyright infringement.

vRad filed the suit in U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona against Tandem Radiology, charging Tandem and certain of its employees and founders with infringement of patent rights. The lawsuit also includes Tandem customers Direct Radiology and Imaging Advantage, which use Tandem's platform, according to vRad.

vRad alleges that the defendants directly infringe upon patents relating to automated teleradiology study assignment, automated order creation, and teleradiology image processing. The lawsuit seeks to enjoin the defendants' marketing, sale, and use of infringing systems and monetary damages, among other relief.
