Final RSNA numbers confirm attendance drop

RSNA released final audited numbers for its 2012 annual meeting, and the figures confirmed a 9% attendance drop compared to the 2011 edition of the show.

RSNA 2012 saw a total audited attendance of 53,778, down 9% compared with a final audited figure of 59,097 in 2011.

While attendance dropped 5% in the exhibitor category and 4% in the professional category, most of the drop occurred in the guest/other category. RSNA noted that in 2012 the society instituted a guest registration fee; final audited attendance in that category dropped 32% compared to 2011.

Final audited RSNA 2012 attendance
Attendee type 2011 2012 % change

In a December 14 statement, RSNA Executive Director Mark Watson said the society anticipated a decrease in overall attendance due to the "uncertain global economic climate." However, Watson pointed out that RSNA member attendance increased over 2011.

In other RSNA 2012 statistics, the society said that this year's show featured 1,863 scientific presentations, 235 refresher courses, 86 multisession courses, 40 series courses, 45 informatics courses, 2,111 education exhibits, and 1,257 scientific posters.
