Matakina partners with Microsoft, offers cloud-based Volpara

Breast density software company Matakina International announced a new partnership with Microsoft to make its Volpara breast density assessment software available globally via the Microsoft Azure Cloud, and launched the cloud-based version of the software at this week's 2012 RSNA meeting in Chicago.

The software helps radiologists assess breast density more objectively and determine which patients might benefit from additional screening. The new cloud-based version offers secure, HIPAA-compliance access to raw mammography acquisition data needed for the breast density assessment, according to the company.

It also enables the unlimited storage of data and the ability to perform temporal analysis of breast density. Traditionally, facilities have not stored the raw data from which density measurement is performed. Now with long-term secure access to the data, year-to-year changes in patient breast density can be compared, helping to detect cancers earlier at the first signs of change, according to the company.
