GE to launch new digital x-ray systems

GE Medical Systems is launching two new digital x-ray systems at a press conference today in New York City, the Waukesha, WI, vendor is reporting.

One of the systems is Innova 2000, the first flat-panel digital cardiovascular system to receive Food and Drug Administration approval. With the system, GE appears to have solved the tricky problem of generating clinically useful cardiac cath images with a flat-panel digital detector. GE has kept Innova 2000 closely under wraps, and the press conference will mark the first time information about the product has been disclosed publicly.

The second system is Senographe 2000D, a full-field digital mammography system approved in January. The New York City event will mark the official launch of Senographe 2000D.

The press conference will take place at 10:15 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. In a twist, GE is making the event available on the Internet. Interested parties should point their browsers to http://www.webevents.broadcast.com/gemedical/digitalxray.
