Carestream gets FDA nod for dose reduction capability

February 8, 2022 -- Carestream Health has garnered U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for the dose reduction capability on its Smart Noise Cancellation (SNC) technology on digital x-ray systems.

The artificial intelligence (AI)-based software feature enables users to lower dose in digital x-ray exams without reducing image quality, according to the vendor. The clearance was provided based on a reader study in which radiologists compared pairwise images acquired at both nominal dose (cesium iodide ISO 400 speed/gadolinium oxysulfide ISO 320 speed) and reduced dose (cesium iodide ISO 800 speed/gadolinium oxysulfide ISO 500 speed) with SNC.

SNC is available as an option with the vendor's Eclipse-powered ImageView software on the company's DRX-Evolution and DRX-Evolution Plus digital radiography systems.
