Computer software and artificial intelligence (AI) company RSIP Vision has unveiled a prostate MRI and ultrasound fusion AI software application.

Designed for use in procedures such as biopsies and robotic prostate surgeries, the automated deep learning-based technology utilizes a registered MRI scan of the prostate to display information on top of an intraoperative ultrasound image. The resulting "warped" MRI scan matches the real-time ultrasound results to help surgeons locate clinically relevant regions of interest inside and near the prostate during surgeries, according to the vendor.

Initially, the software module will provide MRI-to-ultrasound registration using standard MRI scans and transrectal ultrasound images, RSIP Vision said. However, the company also said it plans to extend the application in the future to various types of ultrasound scanners and to guide physicians in ultrasound probe placement.

The vendor-neutral tool is available to third-party medical device and application firms, RSIP Vision said.
