Societies prepare for International Day of Radiology

More than 140 medical societies around the world plan to celebrate the accomplishments of breast imaging for this year's International Day of Radiology (IDoR) on Tuesday, November 8.

Sponsored by the American College of Radiology (ACR), the RSNA, and the European Society of Radiology, IDoR 2016 will focus on breast imaging and the essential role radiology plays in detecting, diagnosing, and managing breast disease, according to the societies. The day is also supported by the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI), the European Society of Breast Imaging, and the Image Wisely and EuroSafe Imaging radiation safety campaigns. What's more, the event will include celebrations during National Radiologic Technology Week (November 6-12).

The societies said that IDoR will also reinforce the importance of annual mammography screening beginning at age 40, as recommended by many major medical organizations with breast cancer care expertise -- including the ACR, the RSNA, the SBI, and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
