Volpara takes breast density order from Athena

Volpara Solutions has taken an order for its VolparaDensity volumetric breast density measurement software.

The order comes from the Athena Breast Health Network, which includes five University of California medical centers.

A team at Athena has developed a breast screening program that would base screening decisions on a woman's individualized risk of developing breast cancer, as indicated by factors such as breast density, personal history, and single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) testing. Individuals at very low risk would receive less frequent screening schedules, while those at high risk would receive ehanced surveillance and prevention options.

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) would be the first center to use the VolparaDensity software, under the direction of Dr. Laura Esserman, founding director of Athena and director of the UCSF Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center.
