Waveland Medical Center in Waveland, MS, rebuilt its medical records with a donation from the Katrina Phoenix project, an initiative created by the HIMSS Foundation. The foundation provides donated electronic health record (EHR) software to healthcare facilities harmed by Hurricane Katrina.
Through donations to the Katrina Phoenix project, the society provided a grant to Waveland for an EHR application through the HIMSS Foundation and implemented it using volunteers with the project. The hospital used the SoapWare EHR system as part of the records-restoration project.
