May 17, 2023 -- The Facilitating Access to Innovative Diagnostics (FIND) Act -- legislation that could significantly change how PET radiopharmaceuticals are covered for Medicare beneficiaries -- has been reintroduced in the U.S. Senate.

The FIND Act of 2023 would direct the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to establish separate payment requirements for diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals. Currently, the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid bundles payments for PET radiopharmaceuticals as part of the packaged cost of imaging procedures in hospital outpatient settings.

The legislation was reintroduced by Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) on May 16.

"Anyone who's battled diseases like cancer or Alzheimer's knows what a difference a clear and early diagnosis can make," Baldwin said in a news release. "And advanced imaging can be that difference, helping identify and diagnose a disease, inform more timely and appropriate treatment plans, and improve overall health care outcomes."

A companion bill was reintroduced in the U.S. House in March.
