Canon retires Vital Images brand in HIT retooling

By AuntMinnie.com staff writers

July 20, 2021 -- Canon Medical Systems is making a number of changes to its healthcare information technology (HIT) division, including switching its Vital Images advanced visualization subsidiary to carry the Canon Medical brand.

Under the new operational plan, the HIT division will be known as Canon Medical Informatics and will encompass the firm's enterprise, artificial intelligence (AI), and collaborative imaging activities. The division will also broaden its capabilities and leverage Canon Medical's global infrastructure, according to the vendor.

The changes are being made to further solidify Canon's goal of strengthening HIT as a key growth pillar, the firm said. The name change and reform will take effect on October 1.

Vital Images was acquired by Toshiba Medical Systems in 2011; Toshiba subsequently was bought by Canon in 2016.
