By staff writers

July 31, 2009 -- Speech recognition and transcription technology provider MedQuist of Mount Laurel, NJ, saw a decrease in revenue for its second quarter of 2009.

For the period (end-June 30), revenue was $77.5 million, a 6% decrease compared to $82.5 million in the second quarter of 2008. The company attributed the dip to lower medical transcription revenue resulting from lower average prices for MedQuist's services. Net income for the quarter was $800,000, compared with $1.8 million for the same period in 2008.

Revenue for the first six months of 2009 was $156.4 million, down 6% compared to $166.1 million for the same period in 2008. The company had a net income of $7.7 million for the six-month period, compared with a net loss of $2.6 million for the same period the year before.
