Breast imaging is in the midst of a new technological revolution with the rise of AI for analyzing mammography images. The question is, will AI for breast imaging prove to be more successful than computer-aided detection (CAD), which failed to improve the diagnostic accuracy of mammography following its introduction some 20 years ago?

But there are fundamental differences between today's AI algorithms and the CAD of the past, Bahl believes. Therefore, there is good reason to believe that AI will finally fulfill the promise of using computers to aid radiologists for breast cancer screening.
