September 29, 2020 -- U.K. software developer Ultromics will be collaborating with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, to apply artificial intelligence (AI) software to diagnose heart failure on echocardiography studies.

The joint research team will use AI to identify biomarkers of heart failure and then develop an automated image analysis risk-prediction model that can alert doctors to potential heart failure at the point of care, according to the company. The AI engine from the vendor's EchoGo core software will be used to analyze 10,000 2D echocardiograms and will provide an assessment of systolic and diastolic information throughout the entire cardiac cycle, Ultromics said.

Ultromics CTO Gary Woodward and Dr. Patricia Pellikka of the Mayo Clinic will lead the project. The new effort marks the third collaboration between Ultromics and the Mayo Clinic.
