May 16, 2018 -- Medical image-sharing software developer LifeImage has introduced Lite, a new offering designed to help healthcare organizations build an interoperable clinical network for bidirectional sharing of medical information and images without the need for an IT department.

Making use of standards-based application programming interfaces (APIs), Lite facilitates access to medical imaging data types across multiple vendors and can connect to any health IT vendor that is certified for stage 2 of the U.S. government's meaningful use program, according to the vendor. It can also integrate into existing workflow without requiring an additional user interface. In addition, Lite bundles diagnostic reports and associated clinical files along with images, avoiding the need to reconcile separate files at the receiving site, LifeImage said.

The software also includes an exam prioritization feature that enables exams with DICOM priority tags of "high" and "medium" to be exchanged first before other files. In addition, users can set up rules with Lite to route exams automatically to different locations based on matching DICOM metadata, according to the firm.

Lite can be configured remotely into a referral or coordination site; a sharing site can download the application in less than one minute and can configure Lite into complex workflows in less than an hour, the vendor said. It also features a multithreaded streaming architecture to speed up exam transfer.

Since preannouncing Lite to its customers last month, LifeImage has deployed the offering to nearly 30 hospital clients, according to the firm.
