April 23, 2020 -- An international research group plans to test the ability of artificial intelligence (AI) to detect signs of COVID-19 on CT scans.

Called the FED-COV-CT project, the group combines international researchers with companies based in Germany to apply AI to COVID-19 diagnosis. They hope to use the PixelShine software developed by medical imaging software firm AlgoMedica to analyze CT scans.

The group hopes to secure 2 million euros ($2.2 million) from a 45 million euro ($48.7 million) fund set up to improve diagnosis of individuals with SARS-CoV-2 infection. They believe use of AlgoMedica's software will reduce radiation dose to 10% of normal CT scans.
