Medivis unveils augmented reality platform for surgery

By AuntMinnie.com staff writers

February 18, 2019 -- Augmented reality (AR) technology company Medivis launched its AR platform for surgical applications, SurgicalAR, at last week's Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual meeting.

SurgicalAR allows clinicians wearing a Microsoft HoloLens headset to overlay medical images directly onto a patient during surgery, rather than examining 2D images on a screen away from the patient. Using the AR technology can improve the precision of surgical procedures, the efficiency of real-time decision-making, and overall patient safety, the company said.

Medivis also announced that it closed $2.3 million in seed funding in a round led by venture capital firm Initialized Capital.
