May 6, 2009 -- Italian radiologist, professor, and former European Congress of Radiology (ECR) president Dr. Antonio Chiesa passed away on April 26, according to a statement from the European Society of Radiology (ESR).

Chiesa, of Vicenza, Italy, was president of the 2005 ECR and director of imaging at the University of Brescia in Italy.

The ESR said Chiesa was "not only a highly esteemed member of the radiological community and a master of his profession, but first and foremost a most decent, honorable, and caring human being."

A bilingual profile of Chiesa and his plans for the 2005 ECR meeting was published on AuntMinnie.com.
