Radiaction has developed a radiation shielding device for fluoroscopy systems in interventional suites that transfers the burden of radiation shielding from personnel to the fluoroscopy system itself, according to the vendor. The firm said that trials of a noncommercial prototype showed the device could reduce scattered radiation levels in the catheterization room by 97% or more without the need for personal shielding garments.
Invented by entrepreneur Dr. Amir Belson, the technology was developed by Radiaction, which was founded in 2014 by Belson and Jonathan Yifat in the Rad Biomed technology incubator in Israel, Radiaction said. The company said it plans to use the proceeds from the financing round to accelerate research and development, complete required tests, obtain regulatory clearances, and commercialize the technology.
