May 10, 2012 -- Healthcare social network provider Alliance Health joined the Choosing Wisely campaign, an effort to cut unnecessary healthcare utilization.

Alliance Health will educate consumers about unnecessary medical tests through its portfolio of more than 50 health-specific social networks that service 1.5 million members, according to the company. Led by the ABIM Foundation and Consumer Reports, Choosing Wisely is designed to decrease instances where patients ask for, or doctors prescribe, tests or procedures that are not necessarily in the patient's best interest.
