MR mammography: Screening tool or diagnostic adjunct?
Over the years, MR scanners have evolved to become faster and stronger. MRI has a valuable role in the diagnosis of breast cancer; however, it is not for patients of low or normal risk and should be reserved for patients at high risk. It is also important for problem-solving in patients with complex mammograms, for preoperative planning, and for monitoring therapy in patients with breast cancer.

The likelihood of malignancy in MRI-detected breast lesions increases with lesion size, according to a study in the
American Journal of Roentgenology
. As a result, the authors suggested that biopsy may not always be necessary for lesions smaller than 5 mm.
