AuntMinnie.com Cardiac Imaging Radiology Insider

Dear Cardiac Imaging Insider,

Even in a field where disability and death are daily concerns, the sudden loss of a young person due to an undiagnosed heart condition seems particularly tragic.

But our recent story on the limited use of cardiac screening for young athletes has generated several inspiring posts in the AuntMinnie.com general discussion group. Thus far, AuntMinnie members have informed us that there are screening programs for children in Southern California and Atlanta.

In a related vein, this month's Cardiac Insider Exclusive looks at the role MRI can play when hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is suspected but cannot be confirmed by standard echocardiography. Among the patients whose diagnoses were affected by the Minnesota study were asymptomatic teenage twins whose father had been disabled by HCM-related cardiac arrest at age 33.

You'll find this and other recent cardiac imaging stories listed below. As always, we welcome your feedback and ideas.
